Web & Social Media
Timely Coverage
When creating content, I strive to publish in a timely manner. Below are multiple stories I published that were time sensitive.
TenMinuteTalks: The Capitol Break In with Anita White & Patrick Moss
After news spread about the Capitol break in that occurred in Washington on Jan. 6, I decided to speak about it on my podcast in order to inform my audience by talking with Pittsburg High School social science teachers Anita White and Patrick Moss.
In-depth Coverage
One of my favorite parts about journalism is being able to do in-depth coverage. From adoption, coming out and more, being able to delve deep into a topic and seeing the finished product is one of the most rewarding parts of storytelling. When doing in-depth coverage, I like to do as much research as possible and to treat the interviews as more of a conversation when delving into sensitive topics. Below are examples of stories I reported.
Web Design
While my favorite part of storytelling are the stories themselves, I like being able to showcase it in a creative and interactive way. From stories about coming out, being a part of a food drive that supports a good cause, or adoption and more, there are a variety of ways to showcase a story. Whether it's through a photo gallery, video, podcast and more, I love being able to design my content to look both presentable and approachable.
Below are examples of web design that I have produced while on staff.
Coming Out: What it's like to
be in/out of the closet
About:
When doing my coverage on what it's like for students to be in or out of the closet,
I wanted to use a new tactic and challenge myself by utilizing SNO elements
where the story would seem more interactive and viewers could see the photos
taken of those that were featured in the article and see a quote from each
individual, while also giving the post its own unique touch. While the story
involved a heavy topic, I wanted it to come off as something more on the fun side
when others read the article on our website.
The Many Faces of Adoption
About:
When covering adoption at Pittsburg High School, I worked alongside one of
my Editor in Chiefs in creating the web design factor for the project. With three
stories being held within the article, I decided that in order for the story to
stand out more and for the web design to have it's own original feel to it that
we would incorporate a video and podcast episode within the piece. Once the
article was published and viewers were able to admire our work, we received
multiple compliments on the layout of he adoption coverage.
Revamping Our Social Media
I spent a majority of my time as Multimedia Editor rebranding our social media presence in order to remain connected with our community.
Youtube
In 2014, the Pitt Media publications Youtube channel was created. However, it wasn't being used until two years ago and even then, a majority of our community had no idea we had it. This year, because of the rise in multimedia production, we've been posting more content onto the channel than ever before. Which is why as Multimedia Editor I took it upon myself to work on revamping our channel.
I spent my winter break changing our bio, cover photo, adding new sections to the channel and started uploading content onto the channel regularly. Once my work was finished, the staff and myself began promoting the channel through social media in hopes of increasing our insights.

Marketing & Audience Engagment
When I first began sharing my content, I wanted to market it in the right way and believed one of the most effective ways of doing this was to promote it on social media. Whether it be a podcast series, videos, or stories, every story should be displayed on social media for to promote readership.
By engaging with the audience and marking Pitt Media content, our staff has been able to reach a wider variety of individuals within our community. I utilized a free service to be fiscally responsible when establishing the podcast because it wasn't an expense we had originally listed in the program budget. Moving forward, the goal is to increase audience engagement across all platforms and track analytics. Post-COVID, we will utilize the analytics to market advertisements to local businesses to increase program revenue.
TenMinuteTalks
When I first began my podcast series "TenMinuteTalks" on March 15, I knew that I wanted to choose a platform that would produce for multiple forms of media for listeners to have easy access to. After doing some research, I discovered Anchor. In this app, I was able to record, edit and upload my podcast to multiple platforms such as Spotify, Google Podcast, Apple Podcasts, and Overcast.
Because of Anchor, I've been able to see the analytics of how much my podcast has progressed in the past several months and also market my series to a variety of people.

About:
Throughout my time of hosting "TenMinuteTalks," I've been able to advance my podcast performance because of platforms such as Spotify, Google Podcasts, Apple Podcasts and more, along with a variety of social media platforms. As showcased to the left, between March and January the amount of listeners have increased overtime.

About:
Throughout the past three seasons of my podcast, I've produced 24 episodes. As shown on the left, some of my most popular episodes consist of 30 or more listeners. From topics about siblings, mental health, diversity and more, the amount of listeners continue to increase.

About:
When deciding if I wanted to use Anchor as a way to promote my series, I decided to see what types of platforms it would be showcased on. One of the most popular ones for my series is through Spotify. As someone that has used that streaming app since middle school, I thought it was the best option for me to display my series. According to the photo on the left, most of my viewers listen to my series through Spotify along with a variety of other streaming services such as Overcast and Anchor itself.
Deciding to begin producing my series on Anchor was one of the best decisions I could have made.
With having over 600 followers, one of our most interactive social media platforms for Pitt Media is Facebook. Through the media, we are able to share content and promote our publications program. From stories, photo galleries, videos, podcasts and more, I believe Facebook is an effective way for student publications to connect with others.
Below are several examples of Facebook posts that I published.

With every article, podcast episode, or video comes a multitude of ways to distribute it. Our Instagram over the years has become the most viewed social media and reaches over 500 people to view our content. This year we began to take a different approach with social media by uploading both more frequently and our video content to reach a wider audience.
Below are several examples of Instagram posts that I posted.
